Bourousis was born in [[Karditsa]], [[Thessaly]], on [[November 17]], [[1983]]. He started playing basketball for local club GS Karditsa before transferring to [[AEK BC|AEK]] in [[2002]].
In [[2006]], he left AEK for Barcelona but later that same year was picked up by [[Olympiakos BC|Olympiakos]] on a four-year contract.

Bourousis, who stands 2.15m ( 7 ft 0 ¾ in) tall, was a member of the [[National Basketball Team|Greek squad]] that won gold in [[Eurobasket 2005]] and was a member of the [[Eurobasket 2007]] team..
