- 338 BC - Rise of Macedon: Philip II of Macedon crushed Athens and Thebes in the Battle of Chaeronea.
- 1645: The Ottoman army seized Chania, Crete. The commander of the Turkish force however was executed for losing 40,000 men in the siege.
- 1859: King Otto laid the cornerstone of the building of the Academy of Athens.
