- 1863: The "June Events" took place in Athens between opposing political factions ("Mountain Men" and "Plains Men"). 200 died as a result of these clashes.
- 1953: Greek forces repelled Chinese attacks on Hill 440 during the Korean War.
- 1971: Junta strongman George Papadopoulos threatened Cyprus President Archbishop Makarios III with "bitter measures" should he refuse proposals related to the Turkish Cypriot minority.
- 2007: Nikos Galis was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame
- Deaths: Leo III, the Isaurian (741), Byzantine Emperor; Queen Olga (1926); Alketas Panagoulias, soccer coach (2012)
