- 1940: The Italian Air Force bombed Ioannina causing civilian casualties.
- 1967: The first, for Greece, open heart surgery procedure was successfully performed at Evangelismos Hospital in Athens
- 1977: 12 died of flood waters from Kifissos and surrounding rivers caused by torrential rains.
- 1982: The traffic ring was implemented for the first time in Athens in an effort to combat smog.
- 1991: Policeman Yiannis Varis was killed and 6 other policemen were injured by a rocket and grenade attack on a MAT bus in Exarchia, Athens. The Revolutionary Organization 17 November assumed responsibility.
- Births: Odysseus Elytis, poet (1911), Princess Sophia of Greece (1938), Giorgos Kolokithas, basketball player (1947).
