'''Dimitris Plapoutas''' was a Greek revolutionary during the [[War of Independence]] ([[1821]] - [[1829]].

He was born on [[May 15]], [[1786]] in Paloumba, [[Arcadia]], the son of [[Kollias Plapoutas]] an [[armatolos]]. In [[1811]] he left Paloumba for the [[Ionian Islands]] where he became an officer in the British army. In [[1818]], he joined the "Friendly Society" ([[Filiki Eteria]]) which was planning to liberate [[Greece]] from Ottoman yoke.

During the revolution, Dimitris Plapoutas took part in the [[Siege of Tripolis]], the [[Battle of Valtetsi]], the [[Battle of Maniaki]] and other battles.

After independence, in [[1833]], he was accused along with [[Theodoros Kolokotronis]] and [[Kitsos Tzavelas]] of high treason and sentenced to death, however, along with the others, he was later exhonorated and released. Plapoutas then became involved in Greek politics and served in Parliament ([[1844]] - [[1847]]) and in the Senate ([[1847]] - [[1862]]). He was also made an honorary bodyguard of [[King Otto]].

He died in [[1864]].
