Grey was born Angeliki Kalaitzi on [[April 16]], [[1926]] in the village of Mytilinioi on the island of [[Samos]]. She originally started singing [[Elafro]] songs while trying her hand at acting. She then met [[Vasilis Tsitsanis]] and [[Yiannis Papaioannou (rebetika)|Yiannis Papaioannou]] who introduced her to [[Laika]] music.
