Viera was born on [[May 11]], [[1946]]. At age 20, he was a member of the Uruguay squad that competed in World Cup 1966 in England.

Viera transferred to [[Olympiakos FC|Olympiakos]] [[Piraeus]] in [[1972]] and played for the red-and-whites until [[1977]] when he joined [[AEK FC|AEK]]. He won the Greek championship five times (three times with Olympiakos and twice with AEK) and the Greek Cup twice (once with each team).
