- 1922: The Greek army evacuates Eastern Thrace followed by thousands of Greek and Armenian refugees
- 1923: A coup d'etat led by Generals Georgios Leonardopoulos and Panagiotis Gargalidis and Colonel Georgios Ziras breaks out.
