- March 4: The UN authorises a force "UNFICYP" to be sent to Cyprus.
- March 4: Armenians are evicted from the Turkish sector of Nicosia. A total of 231 previously Armenian houses are taken over by Turkish-Cypriots.

- November 29: A deadly mine explosion - possibly left from the war - during the 22nd anniversary celebrations of the sabotage of the bridge of Gorgopotamos, results in the death of 13 people. Another 51 were seriously injured.
