- February 16: The Centre Union party of Georgios Papandreou triumphs in the Greek elections winning 52.8% of the vote. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos' National Radical Union receive a mere 35.2%.

- March 4: The UN authorises a force "UNFICYP" to be sent to Cyprus.
- March 4: Armenians are evicted from the Turkish sector of Nicosia. A total of 231 previously Armenian houses are taken over by Turkish-Cypriots.
- March 6: Constantine II becomes King of Greece upon the death of his father King Paul.
- March 7: Fighting breaks out in Mallia, Lemesos province, Cyprus between Cypriot National Guardsmen and Turkish Cypriot irregulars.

- August 6: The Cypriot National Guard attacks the Turkish-Cypriot village of Kokkina after reports that men and weapons were being smuggled there.
