January
- January 5: Patriarch Athenagoras meets Pope Paul VI on the Mount of Olives. It marks the first time the leaders of the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church have met since the Council of Florence in the 15th Century.
February
- February 16: The Centre Union party of Georgios Papandreou triumphs in the Greek elections winning 52.8% of the vote. Panagiotis Kanellopoulos' National Radical Union receive a mere 35.2%.
March
- March 4: The UN authorises a force "UNFICYP" to be sent to Cyprus.
- March 4: Armenians are evicted from the Turkish sector of Nicosia. A total of 231 previously Armenian houses are taken over by Turkish-Cypriots.
- March 6: Constantine II becomes King of Greece upon the death of his father King Paul.
- March 7: Fighting breaks out in Mallia, Lemesos province, Cyprus between Cypriot National Guardsmen and Turkish Cypriot irregulars.
- March 13: Turkey issues an ultimatum to the Cypriot government that unless all Turkish Cypriot prisoners of the civil conflict were released and freedom of movement was restored, they would invade the island in 36 hours.
- March 28: The Turkish government starts expelling ethnic Greeks. During the 1964, almost 10,000 Greeks will be forced out of Turkey.
- March 28: Saudi King Ibn Saud is ousted by his brother Faisal. He will take refuge in Greece where he will spend the rest of his life.
May
- May 7: Stelios Kazantzidis marries his singing partner Marinella.
- May 11: Two Greek officers and a Greek Cypriot policeman are machine-gunned to death in Famagusta. Another Greek officer is injured. The four men were in a vehicle that was stopped by Turkish-Cypriot irregulars.
- May 24: Panathinaikos defeat Olympiakos 1-0, thanks to a Vangelis Panakis header, to finish the season undefeated - the only Greek side to do so in the history of the Alpha Ethniki.
June
- June 17: Fans vandalise and burn Leoforos Alexandras Stadium after a very suspicious 1-1 Greek Cup semifinal draw between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos. The players of the two teams escape disguised as policemen, bus drivers, etc.
- June 20: Corinna Tsopei is crowned Miss Universe.
- June 23: PM Georgios Papandreou meets US President Lyndon B. Johnson in the White House.
July
- July 25: Giorgos Marsellos breaks the Greek record in the 110m hurdles with 14.1
- July 26: Christos Papanicolaou breaks the Greek record in pole vault with 4.73m in Cairo.
August
- August 6: The Cypriot National Guard attacks the Turkish-Cypriot village of Kokkina after reports that men and weapons were being smuggled there.
- August 8: Turkish jets bombard Greek positions in Tylliria, Cyprus. 55 Greeks are killed and 125 are wounded. Half of that number are civilians.
September
- September 7: Georgios Plytas is elected Mayor of Athens.
- September 18: King Constantine II marries Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark.
- September 26: The Vatican returns the skull of Saint Andrew to Patra.
- September 26: Giorgos Tsakanikas breaks the Greek record in the shot put with 18.21m.
- September 30: Panathinaikos become the first club from Greece to advance into the second round of the European Cup of Champions as they defeat Glentoran 3-2 thanks to a Kostas Papoutsakis header late in the game.
October
- October 11: Kostas Nestoridis - at age 34 - plays the game of his life as AEK defeat Apollon Athens 7-1 at Rizoupolis Stadium. Nestoridis scores three goals with Spiros Pomonis and Lefteris scoring two each. The two scored by Turkish-Greek legend, Lefteris, would be the last of his illustrious career.
November
- November 29: A deadly mine explosion - possibly left from the war - during the 22nd anniversary celebrations of the sabotage of the bridge of Gorgopotamos, results in the death of 13 people. Another 51 were seriously injured.
December
- December 6: Newly-promoted Proodeftiki shock the Greek football world by defeating Olympiakos 3-0 at Karaiskaki Stadium.
- December 15: Parliamentarians are obligated from now on to an annual declaration of assets or an origin of wealth (pothen esches - πόθεν έσχες) - the measures are implemented to combat corruption.
