- January 27: An Athens Appellate Court acquits Police Officer Athanasios Melistas in the 1985 shooting of 15-year old student Kaltezas.
February
- February 5: The Revolutionary Organization 17 November sends a proclamation to the "Epikairotita" newspaper, assuming responsibility for stealing two bazookas from the Greek War Museum.
- February 27: Despite opposition from the Church, divorce laws are reformed and the civil wedding ceremony is introduced in Cyprus.

- October 14: Antonis Tritsis defeats actress-activist Melina Mercouri and is elected Mayor of Athens. Tritsis received 50.15% of the vote against Mercouri's 45.94%.

- November 20: Businessman Vardis Vardinoyiannis escapes a rocket attack on his car by the Revolutionary Organisation 17 November.
