- May 16: Newcastle defender Nikos Dabizas is the first Greek to play in an English FA Cup final at Wembley (Newcastle - Arsenal 2-0)
- May 23: Olympiakos lose to Ferencvaros in the Waterpolo European Cup double final.
- May 24: Panathinaikos win their first Greek championship in 14 years by defeating PAOK 68-58 in the playoffs. After this game PAOK star Predrag Stojakovic moves to the Sacramento Kings becoming the first Greek to play in NBA.
- May 31: Greece U21 rank 2nd after losing to Spain 1-0 in the final of European Football Championship.

- July 30: Fanis Christodoulou announces his retirement from professional basketball.
August
- August 10: 31 year-old trainer Giorgos Loukanidis, son of the legendary Panathinaikos and Doxa Drama striker Takis Loukanidis, dies in a car accident.

- September 5: Cyprus defeat Spain 3-2 in a Euro 2000 qualifier.
