  • March 1: Rating agency Moody’s upgrades Greece’s sovereign credit rating by two notches from “B3” to “B1” with a stable outlook.

April

  • April 14: The dead body of a woman is discovered by two tourists in a mine shaft at Mitsero, Cyprus.
  • April 15: The dead woman is identified as Mary Rose Tiburcio, of the Philippines, who had been missing for eleven months.
  • April 18: Police arrest two officers of the Cyprus National Guard, aged 30 and 35, in connection with the murder of Mary Rose Tiburcio.
  • April 20: A second decomposed body of a woman is found at the Mitsero mine shaft. The 30-year old suspect is released.
  • April 21: The 35-year old Cyprus National Guard officer, arrested in connection with the Mitsero murders, is identified as Nicos Metaxas.
  • April 21: PAOK ends their 34-year wait for a league title as a 5-0 rout of relegated Levadiakos saw the Thessaloniki club win the Super League with one match to spare amid frenzied celebrations at the Toumba Stadium.
  • April 25: Police discover a third body in Orounta, after being led there by Metaxas. The latter confesses to seven murders.

  • May 11: PAOK win the Greek Cup for the third time in a row after defeating AEK for the third time in a row (this time with 1-0), and the so called “Double” for the first time after clinching the championship three weeks earlier.
