Achilleas Grammatikopoulos was born in 1910. He guarded Olympiakos' nets from 1928 until 1944. He was considered one of the top keepers of the pre-WW II era and was capped 5 times by the Greek National team. One of those appearances was in Budapest, against Hungary, when Greece suffered an 11-1 loss to the eventual World Cup finalists. It is said that close to 100 shots were fired at the Greek goal and Grammatikopoulos did well to contain the Magyars to 11 goals.

After his playing career was over, Grammatikopoulos stayed on in football as a referee.
