'''Amfissa''' (Greek: Άμφισσα), other form: '''Amphissa''' is a town and the capital of the [[Phocis prefecture]] and the [[Parnassida]] province with the population around 10,000. In the medieval times until the 1800s, the area was known as Salona (Σάλωνα). Amfissa is linked with [[Greece Interstate 27|GR-27]] and the old [[Greece Interstate 48|GR-48]] linking to [[Lidoriki]]. Amfissa sits on the edge of the northern part of the [[Crisaean plain]]. The mountains cover the west, further east with the view of the [[Parnassos]] mountains and the [[Gkiona]] to the north. Amfissa dates back to ancient times. Amfissa once served as a city-state and was the important city in [[Locris]]. During the Greek [[War of Independence]], Amfissa was liberated by soldiers including [[Salonon Isaias]], [[Athanasios Diakos]], [[Odysseas Androutsos]], [[Panourgias]] [[Dyovouniotis]], [[Trakas]], [[Gouras]], [[Mitropoulos]] and more. The anniversary of the seizure of the castle from the Greeks ([[April 10]], [[1821]]) celebrated with every occasion every year from the residents of the city.
