Ammochostos province takes up the eastern third of Cyprus, including the Karpasia peninsule. It is known as a holiday hot spot with several resorts in the area that attract tourists from all over Europe. Two-thirds of the province is currently under Turkish military occupation and for this reason, Paralimni is currently serving as its capital instead of Ammochostos.
