Christos Fotomaras was a commander during the Greek War of Independence.

Originally from Parga, Epirus, Fotomaras fought in the second siege of Messolonghi and survived the break-out to continue the war effort.

Fotomaras settled in Nafplio after the war. When Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias was assassinated and his murderer, Konstantinos Mavromichalis was being lynched, Fotomaras heard the commotion and came out to his window to see what was happening. When told of the murder, he pulled out his loaded gun and put the assassin out of his misery. This did not prevent the lynch mob from desecrating the corpse and tossing it off a cliff.
