Democratic Union

The Democratic Union (Greek Δημοκρατική Ένωσις), was a political alliance of several parties that contested the 1956 general elections in Greece.

Seven parties participating in the Democratic Union ranging from the conservative People's Party to the leftist United Democratic Left:

• The Liberal Party of Sophocles Venizelos
• The Liberal Democratic Union of Georgios Papandreou
• The People's Party of Konstantinos Tsaldaris
• The Democratic Party of the Working People of Georgios Kartalis
• The United Democratic Left of Ioannis Pasalidis
• The National Progressive Centre Union of Savvas Papapolitis
• The Party of Farmers and Workers of Alexandros Baltazis

In the February 19, 1956 elections, the Democratic Union polled a plurality of 1,620,007 votes but elected 132 MPs, second to the National Radical Union of Constantine Karamanlis which formed a government.
