Gennaios Kolokotronis (Greek Γενναίος Κολοκοτρώνης) was actually born Ioannis Kolokotronis in Stemnitsa, Arcadia prefecture, in 1803. The name "Gennaios" (Greek - "brave") he acquired during the Greek War of Independence (1821) in which he fought valiantly despite his youth.
He was the son of Theodoros Kolokotronis, a hero of the 1821 war and served as the last Prime Minister under King Otto of Greece whom he had served for two decades as his bodyguard.
He died in 1868.
