Gikas Chardouvelis

Gikas Chardouvelis (alternative spelling Hardouvelis, Greek Γκίκας Χαρδούβελης) is a Greek professor, economist and cabinet Minister.

Chardouvelis was born on October 8, 1955. He studied at Harvard University - where he obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees - and the University of California at Berkeley where he obtained his Ph.D. in Economics.

Following graduation, he taught as Columbia University and Rutgers before moving back to Greece to teach at the Department of Banking and Financial Management of the University of Piraeus.

Chardouvelis was appointed Minister of Finance in June 2014 by PM Antonis Samaras.
