Giorgos Giannakopoulos was a talented midfielder for Panionios, Panathinaikos (where he was sparingly used) and, after 1966 for Aegaleo where he went as part of the deal that sent Victor Mitropoulos to Panathinaikos. He was the son of Antonis Giannakopoulos, a former Panionios player.

He was a member of Aegaleo's 1971 team that finished in the top 4 of the Alpha Ethniki. His specialty was the diving header.
