Greek Left

The Greek Left (Greek Ελληνική Αριστερά, abbrev. ΕΑΡ / EAR) was a left-of-centre political party in Greece led by Leonidas Kyrkos.

The Greek Left came about when the Communist Party of Greece of the Interior (aka KKE Interior) split after its 4th Congress.

The Greek Left never participated in any elections on its own but, shortly after its establishment, formed with the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) the Coalition of the Left and Progress. In 1992, the Communist Party of Greece pulled out of the coalition. The Greek Left then dissolved, remaining within the Coalition of the Left and Progress which changed from a political alliance into a political party.

Besides Chairman Leonidas Kyrkos, other important members of the Greek Left were Secretary General Fotis Kouvelis, Michalis Papayiannakis and Dimitris Papadimoulis.
