He had defended [[Andreas Papandreou]] during his trial in the [[Aspida]] affair and had been in jail during the years of the military dictatorship for resisting it. Ioannis Alevras (1912-1995) was a socialist politician who served as Chairman of the Greek Parliament. He had defended Andreas Papandreou during his trial in the Aspida affair and had been in jail during the years of the military dictatorship for resisting it. After President Constantine Karamanlis resigned, Alevras served as an interim Deputy President (March 10, 1985 - March 30, 1985) of the Republic until new President Christos Sartzetakis was elected from the Parliament.

Alevras died on April 6, 1995.
