  • 1895: First session of the Olympic Games Organizing Committee, presided by Prince Constantine (Ioannis Fokianos, vice president). One of the main issues is fund raising. George Averoff offers the biggest donation, 920.000 golden drachmas, for the restoration of Panathinaikon Stadium.
  • 1941: Anton Christoforidis defeats Melio Bettina, in Cleveland, Ohio, by unanimous decision to win the National Boxing Association light heavyweight title.
  • 1991: The AEK- Olympiakos derby is interrupted five minutes before the end (1-2) when violent riots break out. Outside the Philadelphia stadium a young fan is killed from a fire cracker. The match is repeated in Rhodes one month later and AEK win by 1-0 (Batista).
