- 1822: The Battle of Peta is fought during the Greek War of Independence.
- 1994: Turkish Diplomat, Omer Sipahioglu, is shot and killed in Palio Faliron. The Revolutionary Organization 17 November assume responsibility.
- 2003: The Greek governemnt under Prime Minister Costas Simitis has a Cabinet reshuffle.
- 2004: The Greek National Football Team beats Portugal at the final game of Euro 2004 and is crowned European Champions

- 1961: Olympiakos stun World Champions FC Santos 2-1 (with Pele) at Leoforos Alexandras Stadium (Antonis Poseidon, Tasos Sourounis). Fans protested the ticket price of 35 drachmas -- three times more than the regular 10 drachmas ticket price of the times.
- 1999: Greek-American Pete Sampras wins his 6th Wimbledon title by defeat Andre Agassi 3-0 sets.
