- 847: Ignatius I is named Patriarch of Constantinople.
- 1822: The Battle of Peta is fought during the Greek War of Independence.
- 1976: The Democratic Rally Party of Cyprus is founded by Glafkos Clerides.
- 1990: Cyprus applies for membership in the European Union.
- 1994: Turkish Diplomat, Omer Sipahioglu, is shot and killed in Palio Faliron. The Revolutionary Organization 17 November assume responsibility.
- 2003: The Greek government, under Prime Minister Costas Simitis, has a Cabinet reshuffle.
- 2004: The Greek National Football Team beats Portugal at the final game of Euro 2004 and is crowned European Champions

- 1961: Olympiakos stun World Champions FC Santos (with Pele) 2-1 at Leoforos Alexandras Stadium (Antonis Poseidon, Tasos Sourounis - Mimis Stefanakos og). Fans protested the ticket price of 35 drachmas -- three times more than the regular 10 drachmas ticket price of the times.
