- 1971: Junta strongman George Papadopoulos threatens Cyprus President Archbishop Makarios III with "bitter measures" should he insist on refusing Papadopoulos' proposals relating to the Turkish Cypriot minority.

- 1865: Evangelos Zappas dies. He contributed a large amount of money to building Zappeion Megaron and financing Olympia every 4 years, along with commercial exhibitions (4 games took place between 1859 and 1888). These games remained in history as Zappas' Olympiads
- 1932: FIBA (originally FIBB) is founded in Geneva. Greece (represented by Symeon Mauroskoufis and Giorgos Ambatzioglou) is one of the founding members. L. Boufard is elected chairman and W. Jones general secretary.
- 1994: Ethnikos win their 35th Waterpolo title after beating Olympiakos 12-10. Ethnikos dominated the waterpolo championships for many years in the past (1953-1968 and 1972-1985)
