• 1623: Anthimus II is elected Patriarch of Constantinople.
• 1863: The "June Events" take place in Athens between opposing political factions ("Mountain Men" and "Plains Men"). 200 will die as a result of these clashes.
• 1953: Greek forces repel Chinese attacks on Hill 440 during the Korean War.
• 1971: Junta strongman George Papadopoulos threatens Cyprus President Archbishop Makarios III with "bitter measures" should he insist on refusing Papadopoulos' proposals relating to the Turkish Cypriot minority.

Sports

• 1932: FIBA (originally FIBB) is founded in Geneva. Greece (represented by Symeon Mauroskoufis and Giorgos Ambatzioglou) is one of the founding members. L. Boufard is elected chairman and W. Jones general secretary.
• 1994: Ethnikos win their 35th Waterpolo title after beating Olympiakos 12-10. Ethnikos dominated the waterpolo championships for many years in the past (1953-1968 and 1972-1985)
• 2006: Dimitris Tsiamis set a new national record in the men's triple jump, registering a 17.55-meter performance during a two-day meeting in Thessaloniki. The previous Greek record had been set by Costas Zalagitis, just under four years ago, with a 17.43-meter leap.
• 2007: Nikos Galis is inducted into the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Hall of Fame
