Athenian general (5th Century BC). Following the defeat of the Persians at the battle of Salamis, Athens launched a "mop-up" operations against the Persians. Kimon played a vital part defeating Persian garrisons in Thrace, the Aegean Islands and the coast of Asia Minor. In 449 BC Kimon attacked the Persians at Citium (present day Larnaca) in a naval battle and defeated them, however, he was killed in the battle.
