- 1821: Three days after the proclamation of the Greek Revolution, a provisional government is formed in the liberated city of Kalamata.
- 1921: During the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922), battles break out along the Afyon Karahisar - Eskisehir line.
- 1930: The Turkish government announces that henceforth Constantinople shall be called Istanbul. Angora is officially named Ankara.
- 1957: EOKA fighter, Stylianos Lenas, who was wounded in a firfight with British soldiers on February 18, succumbs to his wounds. He is buried without a funeral at the Imprisoned Tombs in the Central Jail of Nicosia.
