Events

1821: Three days after the proclamation of the Greek Revolution, a provisional government is formed in the liberated city of Kalamata.
1921: During the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922), battles break out along the Afyon Karahisar - Eskisehir line.
1930: The Turkish government announces that henceforth Constantinople shall be called Istanbul. Angora is officially named Ankara.
1964: Saudi King Ibn Saud is ousted by his brother Faisal. He will take refuge in Greece where he will spend the rest of his life.
1972: Dictator George Papadopoulos becomes: Royal Regent, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Defence Minister and President of the Greek Parliament.
1994: EU representative Van der Brook asks Greek PM Andreas Papandreou to lift all the measures his government has taken against FYROM.
2003: Greek police put an end to the hijacking of a Turkish jet which landed at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport. All 192 passengers and 11 crew members are safe.

1962: Takis Loukanidis debuts in a Panathinaikos jersey against AEK. His team win the game at Nea Philadelphia Stadium with two goals by Toumbelis and one by Mimis Domazos after being down 2-0.
