Marios Tokas

Marios Tokas was a Cypriot composer and lyricist of popular music.

Tokas was born on June 8, 1954 in Lemesos, Cyprus. In 1975, he went to Athens to study Philosophy and Music. In 1978 he completed his first album «Τα τραγούδια της παρέας» (Songs of our crowd) which was sung by Manolis Mitsias. This work was a success leading to other albums such as «Μικρά ερωτικά» (Small Love songs) and «Στη λεωφόρο της αγάπης» (On the avenue of love).

These were followed by his mega-hit «Σαν τρελό φορτηγό» (Like a mad truck) which was sung by Yiannis Parios and was also translated into languages other than Greek. Other works followed such as «Η εθνική μας μοναξιά» (Our national solitude).

Tokas worked with singers such as Charis Alexiou, Demetra Galani, Dimitris Mitropanos and others.

He died on April 27, 2008 of cancer.
