  • 1964: AEK triumph over Iraklis 94-74, in a playoff game, to win the first national basketball championship of Greece. The two teams had finished even on points during the regular season.
  • 1987: The 5th International Waterpolo Men FINA Cup is held in Thessaloniki. Greece take 8th place (last). Yugoslavia win the trophy. Manuel Estiarte of Spain takes the top scorer award (28 goals)
  • 2000: Ionikos play for the first time in a Greek Cup final. They lose to AEK 3-0
  • 2006: In the first Greek Football Cup final played in Crete, Olympiakos defeat AEK 3-0.
  • 2011: Kostas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou are given 31-month suspended jail terms for staging a motorbike crash in order to skip a doping test before the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics. Also convicted was their coach, two false witnesses and the doctors who treated them at the time.
  • 2013: Kostas Filippidis wins the gold medal in the pole vault, at the Diamond League, in Doha, Qatar, with a 5.82m jump, setting a new outdoor Greek record.
