- 1931: An attempted coup by supporters of Theodoros Pangalos was put down.
- 1944: 10 Greeks were hanged by the German occupation forces at Psila Alonia, Achaea prefecture.

- 1956: Michalis Karaolis and Andreas Dimitriou became the first two Greek-Cypriots to be hanged by the British during the EOKA campaign.

- 1934: Labour demonstrations in Kalamata turned bloody as police killed four demostrators.

- 1964: Two Greek officers and a Greek Cypriot policeman were machine-gunned to death in Famagusta.
- 2019: PAOK win the Greek Cup and therefore the so called “Double” for the first time after clinching the championship three weeks earlier.

- 1995: A strong earthquake (6.6 on the Richter scale) rocked southern Macedonia between Kozani and Grevena.

- 1790: Lambros Katsonis lost 6 ships in a battle against the Turkish navy off the coast of Andros. He escaped, wounded, to Melos with only two ships.

- 1825: General Theodoros Kolokotronis was pardoned by the revolutionary government and re-instated as commander of the Greek forces in Peloponnesus.

- 1996: Olympiakos humbled Panathinaikos 73-38 and were crowned basketball champions of Greece. The point differential was the largest recorded in basketball playoff history.

- 1453: Byzantines saw the lunar eclipse that occured while Constantinople was under siege as a bad omen. An old legend stated that Constantinople would never fall while the Moon was waxing in the sky.
- 1825: Laskarina Bouboulina was shot dead after a family dispute with in-laws.
- 1963: MP Grigoris Lambrakis was run down by a delivery truck driven by two right-wing extremists. He died five days later.
- 2006: The 19th century painting The Naughty Grandchild by Nikiforos Lytras became the most expensively piece of artwork by a Greek painter, going for 1.08 million euros at an auction at Sotheby's in London.

- 1973: The Greek military vessel "Velos" sailed to Italy where its crew sought political asylum from the military Junta that ruled Greece.
- 2006: Two F-16 fighter jets, one Greek and the other Turkish, collided in mid-air over international waters in the southern Aegean Sea. The Greek airman (Costas Eliakis) went missing despite a major rescue effort.
