- 1854: French and British war ships blockaded Piraeus harbour during the Crimean War. The crews spread a cholera epidemic that decimated the population of the greater Athens area.
- 1921: Serious disorders in Egypt cost the lives of 50 persons as natives attacked Greek expatriates.
- 1962: Princess Sofia of Greece married future King Juan Carlos de Borbon of Spain.
