Sokratis Papastathopoulos (in Greek: Σωκράτης Παπασταθόπουλος, born June 9, 1988 in Kalamata), commonly known by the singular name Sokratis, is a Greek professional football player who plays as a centre back.

After playing in his youth for Aiantas Kalamata and Apollon Petalidiou Sokratis moved to AEK in 2004 to join their youth academy. On October 26, 2005 he made his debut for the “kitrinomavroi”. In January 2006 Sokratis was loaned to Niki Volos for six months. In the summer of 2008, just a few after his debut for the Greek National football team, Sokratis moved for two years to Italian side Genoa. AC Milan was in the summer of 2010 his next stage in his career. After just five game for the “bianconeri” Sokratis was loaned to German side Werder Bremen in the summer of 2011 with the option to purchase outright. Werder bought him but transferred him already the next year to German giants Borussia Dortmund. After a five year spell at Borussia Sokratis moved in the summer of 2018 to the English Premier League to play for Arsenal.

So far Sokratis was capped 90 times for the Ethniki, scoring three goals. He is at this moment the vice-captains of the team.
