Aloneftis is an attacking midfielder who tends to play on the left wing. He is highly regarded for his dribbling skills. He started his career with Omonia Nicosia, making his first appearance for the senior squad during the 2000-01 season however his real talent became apparent during 2003-04. His successes with Omonia include the championship and Super Cup (in 2001 and 2003) and the Cyprus Cup in 2005. He moved to the Greek side, AE Larisa in 2005 for a transfer fee CYP £136,000.

In May, 2007, Aloneftis was signed by Energie Cottbus of the German Bundesliga. The following year he returned to Cyprus and Omonia. In 2011, his contract was terminated by mutual agreement. Next and probably last club was APOEL where he still plays at this moment.
