Stavros Fryganas was a Greek chessplayer and official, considered to be the first chess champion of Greece.

Fryganas, who was born in 1906, lived most of his life abroad. He is unofficially considered to be the first chess champion of Greece. He was the first to bring two chess clocks to Greece which were used in the chess championship of 1947.

Fryganas served as President of the Greek Chess Federation (ESO) until 1957. He died on August 7, 1996.
