Stavros Velkopoulos was a Greek athlete in the 800m, the 1500m and the 3000m steeplechase.

Velkopoulos was born in Istanbul in 1914. He was an athlete of Panathinaikos AO.

Velkopoulos represented Greece in the 1936 Olympics of Berlin. Among his accomplishments were two gold medals in the Balkan Games of 1939, a silver in 1937 and bronze in 1936 and 1938.

After the war, he was persecuted for his political beliefs, being jailed and exiled at various times. His health suffered and he died an untimely death.
