Theodoros Maniateas was a second- and third-string goalkeeper for AEK during the late 1960s. He came to AEK from the small Athens club Pantheseatikos.

His moment of glory came in the Summer of 1967 when he played goalkeeper for AEK in a New York tournament against Santos of Brazil and Benfica of Portugal. He was acclaimed "the hero of New York" by the press after two magnificent performances against the two world-wide powerhouses.
