Yiannis Gouras

Yiannis Gouras was a Greek revolutionary who fought in the War of Independence against the Ottoman Turks.

He was born in 1791 in Phocis prefecture.

When the Greek Revolution broke out on March 25, 1821, Gouras led an army of 700 men in the liberation of Amfissa. Later, along with Odysseus Androutsos, he successfully defended the Gravia inn against Omer Vrioni's superior Turkish force. However, when ordered by the revolutionary government to arrest Androutsos, he did so and eventually had him executed.

He was killed in 1826 fighting the forces of Kutahye pasha during the siege of the Acropolis.
