Aristomenes had some early success in his revolt against [[Sparta]] however he was betrayed at a crucial battle by King [[Aristocrates]] of [[Arcadia]] and forced to seek refuge at Eira fortress.

Aristomenes defended Eira for eleven years ([[682 BC|682]] - [[671 BC]]) before being betrayed once more by [[Aristocrates]].

Aristomenes fled to [[Rhodes]] where he died. He was an ancestor of the famous ancient boxer [[Diagoras]].
