[[Costas Chimonides]] was a track & field athlete. He was born [[1936]] in Kastania, [[Imathia]].

He graduated from the Gymnastics Academy and went on to become an athlete and later a coach.

In 1965 he was transfered from AEK to PAOK.

[[Costas Chimonides]] was also an excellent volleyball athlete. As a matter of fact, he was one of the first to show interest in beach volley before it became a sport in Greece, by organizing meetings between volleyball athletes in Thessaloniki during the summer months. <ref>Eleftherotypia: July 7, 2009: [http://www.enet.gr/?i=news.el.a8lhtismos&id=61315 «Έφυγε» ο Κώστας Χειμωνίδης]</ref>.

He was the first Greek high jump athlete to break the 2 meter barrier using the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valeriy_Brumel Brumel technique]

He died in [[Thessaloniki]] on July 7, 2009 at the age of 73. The last two years of his life he was sick.
