Its population in [[2001]] was 1556 inhabitants.<br /> <br /> Domokos is situated 30km from [[Lamia]] and 25km from [[Farsala]]. Its name is derived from Thaumakos, an ancient city on that same site. <br /> <br /> Domokos was an important city during [[Byzantine Empire|Byzantine]] times. In [[1393]], it fell to the Ottoman Turks. In [[1881]], it was awarded to Greece but was retaken by the Turks during the [[Greco-Turkish War (1897)]].
