Drys was born on [[May 27]], [[1944]] in Potamos, [[Corfu]]. He studied Physics at the [[University of Athens]] with graduate studies in England.

Drys started his political career as a City Councilman in [[Corfu (city)|the city of Corfu]].

He was first elected to the [[Hellenic Parliament]], under the banner of the [[Panhellenic Socialist Movement]] (PASOK), in [[1989]]. He served as Deputy Minister of Finance from [[1996]] until [[2001]] and [[Minister for Agriculture (Greece)|Minister for Agriculture]] from [[2001]] until [[2004]].

Drys is married with one daughter.
