Giataganas was born on [[October 12]], [[1920]], in [[Athens]]. He was an athlete of Ethnikos Gymnastic Club and competed for Greece in the Olympic Games of [[1948]] and [[1952]].

Giataganas held the Greek record for the [[shot put]] which he broke five times, the last time with 15.58m in [[1949]].

Among his accomplishments were:
* a gold medal in the Mediterranean Games of [[1951]] in the [[shot put]]
* a bronze medal in the Mediterranean Games of [[1951]] in the [[discus]]
* a bronze medal in the Mediterranean Games of [[1955]] in the [[discus]]
* a gold medal in the Balkan Games of [[1953]] in the [[discus]]
* a silver medal in the Balkan Games of [[1953]] in the [[shot put]]
* a silver medal in the Balkan Games of [[1954]] in the [[discus]]

Giataganas served as Vice President of Ethnikos G.C. and Vice President of [[SEGAS]]. He died in [[1997]].
