'''Konstantinos Parthenis''' ([[10 May]] [[1878]] - [[25 July]] [[1967]]) was a distinguished [[Greeks|Greek]] painter.

Parthenis was born on [[May 10]], [[1878]], in [[Alexandria]], Egypt, to a Greek father and an Italian mother. From [[1895]] to [[1903]], he studied painting in Vienna, under Karl Dieffenbach.

In [[1903]], Parthenis settled in [[Greece]] and worked mainly as a painter of religious themes. From [[1909]] until [[1914]], he studied post-impressionist art in Paris, returning to Greece in [[1915]].

From [[1930]] until [[1946]], Parthenis taught in the School of Fine Arts. Towards the end of his life he was paralysed and stopped painting. He died on [[July 25]], [[1967]].

Parthenis broke with the Greek academic tradition of the [[19th century]] and introduced modern elements together with traditional themes, like the figure of [[Christ]], in his art.
