Kalambakas was born on [[November 16]], [[1953]]. He started his football career at Apollon [[Litochoro]] before joining [[Pierikos FC|Pierikos]] in [[1972]].

Kalambakas played eight years at [[Pierikos FC|Pierikos]] before transferring in [[1980]] to [[Iraklis FC|Iraklis]] [[Thessaloniki]].

After [[Iraklis FC|Iraklis]], Kalambakas returned to [[Pierikos FC|Pierikos]], moved on to [[Agrotikos Asteras FC|Agrotikos Asteras]] and returned for the third time to [[Pierikos FC|Pierikos]] where he ended his career in [[1987]].

In his playing days Kalambakas was capped three times by the [[National Football Team]] of [[Greece]].
