After playing in his youth for [[Aiantas Kalamata]] and [[Apollon Petalidiou]] Sokratis moved to [[AEK FC|AEK]] in [[2004]] to join their youth academy. On [[October 26]], [[2005]] he made his debut for the “kitrinomavroi”. In January [[2006]] Sokratis was loaned to [[Niki Volos FC|Niki Volos]] for six months. In the summer of [[2008]], just a few after his debut for the Greek [[National football team]], Sokratis moved for two years to Italian side Genoa. AC Milan was in the summer of [[2010]] his next stage in his career. After just five game for the “bianconeri” Sokratis was loaned to German side Werder Bremen in the summer of [[2011]] with the option to purchase outright. Werder bought him but transferred him already the next year to German giants Borussia Dortmund. After a five year spell at Borussia Sokratis moved in the summer of [[2018]] to the English Premier League to play for Arsenal.

So far Sokratis was capped 84 times for the Ethniki, scoring three goals. He is at this moment the vice-captains of the team.
